Surround yourself with people who are contributors; individuals who inspire creativity and who push you to be more than you are.
#1 How have you become a product of your environment? What does that mean to you?
I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and I grew up being active in the elements. My family explored national parks, mountains and beaches on a regular basis and I was always encouraged to spend time in nature to find joy. My excessive energy was also invested in joining every competitive team sport Portland had to offer… and my love of staying fit and active has stayed with me as an adult. I’m at my best when I’m exploring the beauty of our earth and I feel incredibly lucky to live in a place where I have access to it all.

#4 Tell us about the most life-changing trip or experience you’ve had.
My most life changing experiences started from my time backpacking through Asia and Europe for three summers in college. I was working as an international lifeguard and lived in Zama, Japan and Aviano, Italy. My travel experiences left me wanting to learn more about the world near and far and helped me to be grateful for the life I have been given. I’ve never shaken the travel bug since then!

#7 What was the most dangerous trip or experience you’ve had. How did you handle it?
Three friends and I were traveling in a remote part of Thailand and we hitchhiked to get back into the commerce section of town. We showed a map of where we were going to the driver and sat on our packs in the back of his pickup. After a while we realized there was still no sign of the larger city and we were getting farther into an unknown area of Thailand. We panicked and began yelling for the driver to stop, but he sped up. Worried that we were being kidnapped we threw out packs out of the moving truck and jumped out as he rounded a corner. Rolling onto the dirt road, we each endured minimal injuries with scrapes and bruises head to toe. The driver attempted to turn around back towards us and a local Thai man pulled his tuk tuk motor in front of the pickup; giving us time to run away and out of sight. We hid for several hours in a local food hut and reminded one another the importance of begin more aware and taking safer risks regarding the people we chose to trust while traveling.

#12 Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day would begin with a hot cup of coffee or tea and a few quiet minutes for meditation. I would head out early to spend the day at the mountains (skiing, snowboarding, camping or hiking) or surfing in the ocean. The day would conclude in good company with my friends and family and a cold beverage in hand …seems pretty perfect in my opinion!

Currently hanging out in Portland, OR but would love to be exploring some tropical island right about now.
